President's Message
Strength, Stability, Endurance

The Texas workers’ compensation system will change dramatically for employers, injured workers, health care providers, and insurance carriers in the coming year. The Legislature set the wheels in motion last summer by passing House Bill 7, the first major reform the system has seen in over a decade. In the face of these changes, Texas Mutual Insurance Company continues to serve as a stabilizing force in the Texas workers’ compensation system.

Our 2005 Annual Report: Strength, Stability, Endurance demonstrates what we are doing to ensure we will be here for Texas businesses today, tomorrow, and on down the road. I encourage you to read the report in the News and Publications section. You will hear from some of the 45,000 employers who count on us to be there for them every day.

Last year, our “zero tolerance for fraud” program resulted in 14 indictments and 11 convictions or civil rulings in our favor. Our workers’ compensation specialists, nurses, and case managers helped control claim costs by pursuing appropriate medical care and return-to-work. Our loss prevention staff made over 10,000 policyholder visits, and customers downloaded over 16,000 free training materials from our safety resource center.

Our dividends reward loyal policyholders whose commitment to safety helps control premiums. Last year, we distributed about $50 million in dividends among approximately 32,000 policyholders. We also distributed a company-record $6.8 million in dividends that were earned by members of our purchasing groups. While we cannot guarantee dividends, we make it a priority to give back to our policyholders when we can prudently do so.

Many of the employers who received dividends will use that money to help build their businesses for the future. Along the way, they can rest assured that we will be here with our new workers’ comp health care network option and other services to meet their changing business needs.

From our board of directors to our front-line staff, Texas Mutual Insurance Company is committed to making Texas a safer, more productive place to do business. We’re here for Texas, and we’re here to stay.
