New Interactive Tools Help Employers Improve Workplace Safety We owe so many modern conveniences to forward-thinking people who stood up and said, “I know a better way to do that.” After all, imagine what life would be like without the Internet.
In the spirit of the great innovators who came before them, Texas Mutual Insurance Company programmers and loss prevention consultants put their heads together to upgrade the online safety resource center. This spring, they unveiled new tools that help policyholders improve their safety programs, reduce their claim costs and, ultimately, control their premiums. The Assessment tool helps policyholders uncover the root causes of their most common and severe accidents. The system starts by asking a series of questions, such as, “What tasks were employees performing when the accidents occurred?” Based on the responses, it provides a list of free resources to help correct the root causes. Another feature of the Assessment tool allows policyholders to get written safety programs designed around their operations. The user answers questions about the type of work their employees perform and the hazards they are exposed to. From there, the system provides printer-friendly safety programs that address those hazards. The team designed the second new tool, called My Follow-Up, for policyholders who have been visited by a Texas Mutual® loss prevention consultant. They can use it to update and track the status of their safety recommendations and service plans. The tool also allows them to review the history of their recommendations and service plans. “These new tools are the next logical step in the continuing evolution of our online services,” said Mitch Walsh, vice president of underwriting systems at Texas Mutual Insurance Company. “Our policyholders represent a wide variety of industries that have their own unique hazards. Our programmers and loss prevention consultants designed these tools to be as interactive as possible to account for those differences.” Walsh reminds policyholders that they can also visit the safety resource center to get safety tips, calculate their incidence rate, find out how much money accidents cost their business and get safety training material from the multimedia library. All Texas Mutual® online services are free. To use the safety resource center, policyholders should click here and enter their username and password. Policyholders who are not registered to use Texas Mutual® online services should complete the free, online application. For questions about these new tools, policyholders may contact Mike Archip, loss prevention specialist, at (800) 859-5995, extension 8470 or marchip@texasmutual.com.
