State to study networks’ effectiveness
Are health care networks doing what lawmakers intended them to do: reduce claim costs and improve care in the Texas workers’ comp system?

The Texas Department of Insurance Research and Evaluation Group (REG) will find out in 2008.

The REG published its 2008 research agenda this spring. Other items on the agenda include an analysis of return-to-work outcomes and a study on whether injured workers’ income benefits are adequate.

The Texas Legislature created the REG in 2005 and charged it with studying the cost, quality and effectiveness of the workers’ comp system.
