MRI and CT Scans Require Preauthorization

As of April 1, 2009, all MRI and CT scans on Texas Mutual® claims require preauthorization.

When you call (888) 532-5246 or fax (800) 852-1805 for preauthorization on diagnostic imaging services, your request will be routed to Texas Mutual’s new service provider. They will handle the preauthorization and appointment scheduling on compensable network claims for you.

Your staff can help us make the preauthorization process smooth by following these tips:

  • Get preauthorization before you render services. The carrier has up to three days to approve or deny your request.
  • Understand the specifics of preauthorized services, because mutual agreements may differ from requested services.
  • Keep count of preauthorized sessions.
  • Keep a network preauthorization list in front of each patient’s chart.

Remember that network preauthorization requirements are different from out-of- network requirements. For a complete list of Texas Mutual® preauthorization requirements, visit www.texasmutual.com/hcp/preauth.shtm.
