The Doctor is In
Joe Wallace, M.D.Joe Wallace, M.D.
We wanted to wow you in the inaugural installment of “The Doctor is In.” So we came up with a ton of hard-hitting questions to ask Dr. Joe Wallace of Odessa: What are the biggest challenges in treating injured workers? What advice do you have for doctors who are new to workers’ comp?
But when you’re trying to find out what makes a West Texas doctor tick, no question is as important as this: Odessa Permian or Midland Lee?
These two high schools from neighboring cities are embroiled in a football rivalry so fierce that it was documented in a book titled “Friday Night Lights.” (A great read, by the way.) A movie and television series followed.
If you’re not sure what football has to do with medicine, you must not be from Texas.
Midland residents are so loyal to their city that many injured workers will not drive 17 miles to see Dr. Wallace in Odessa. That’s unfortunate, because he’s one of the top providers in the Texas Star Network®.
In fact, Texas Mutual recognized him as such in 2008. Dr. Wallace has earned a reputation for delivering quality care, helping injured employees return to work and practicing consistent with the network’s objectives.
That’s all well and good, but what about the burning question on everyone’s mind?
“He’s from Austin, so he doesn’t get wrapped up in all that rivalry stuff,” said Kathy Wren, Dr. Wallace’s office manager. “Actually, he lives in Midland and works in Odessa, so he’s probably impartial.”
