OSHA backs CDC mask guidance, new guide to help employers create safe workplaces and more
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Each year, the National Safety Council hosts National Safety Month as a reminder to prioritize safety in the workplace and beyond. An area of focus is designated for each week in June. This year’s topics include incident prevention, COVID-19 safety, psychological safety and continuous improvement. Members and non-members can sign up to receive resources and help spread the various safety messages.

AIHA announces new guidelines on injury and illness prevention
AIHA produced a free, downloadable guide to help employers create safer workplaces. The guide, titled Best Practice Guide for Leading Health Metrics in Occupational Health and Safety Programs, focuses on leading metrics in order to prevent injuries and illnesses.

Hurricane season starts June 1
As hurricane season begins, many safety agencies are offering disaster preparedness resources to employers and the general public. OSHA has several resources available to assist businesses with emergency action plans and a general understanding of hurricane warnings.
Free COVID-19 training for retail workers
The University of Southern Maine’s Cutler Institute launched a free online course to provide COVID-19 prevention training to retail workers. Course material covers industry hazards, controls and CDC recommendations. The course is 90 minutes and offers a downloadable certificate after completion.
