Senate confirms Doug Parker as OSHA leader

Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Doug Parker as assistant labor secretary. Parker will be the first Senate-confirmed director of OSHA since David Michaels stepped down in 2017. Parker has served as head of California’s Division of Occupational Safety (Cal/OSHA) since 2019 and was nominated to lead OSHA by President Biden earlier this year.

OSHA seeks feedback on proposed rule for heat illness

OSHA is initiating the rulemaking process regarding the prevention of heat-related injuries and illnesses for indoor and outdoor workers. The proposed rule was published this week in the Federal Register for review. Comments must be submitted by December 27.

OSHA seeks nominations for reestablished advisory council

Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh reestablished the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health, which advises the secretary of labor on workplace safety and health issues for federal employees. The U.S. Department of Labor is now seeking nominations for membership on the 16-person council.

Road safety events on November 4

The Permian Road Safety Coalition is hosting two safe driving events on November 4, in Midland. The first event, Stand Down for Road Safety will feature presentations on creating safer roadways, a first responder life-saving equipment initiative and distracted driving. In the afternoon, the National Safety Council will be presenting a road safety training session. Registration is required for both events.
