OSHA advisory committee to meet Nov. 17

OSHA’s Federal Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health will meet to discuss updates from OSHA leaders, its responsibilities regarding 29 CFR Part 1960 and the national emphasis program focused on heat-related hazards. The virtual meeting is scheduled for November 17 and is open to the public. Comments and requests to speak during the meeting must be submitted by November 10.

Tips for hearing protection

October is National Protect Your Hearing Month. To help raise awareness about occupational hearing loss, the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) is sharing safety tips. DWC’s safety recommendations include recognizing the signs of hazardous noise, ensuring the fit of earplugs and earmuffs, and considering noise-canceling earphones.

EHS Daily Advisor created an infographic on fire safety and prevention for employers. The resource includes information on evacuation, fire extinguishers, emergency action plans and fire prevention plans.

Survey polls industrial workers on their mental health and well-being

In a survey conducted by research firm YouGov on behalf of StrongArm Technologies, over 600 workers in manufacturing, warehousing, construction and transportation were polled. The findings revealed that 47% of respondents reported feeling stressed at their jobs and nearly 1 in 4 respondents in warehouse and transportation industries said their job has had a negative effect on their mental health.
