Employee recovery stories: Dr. Skip Redd’s journey

When Dr. Sidney “Skip” Redd had the opportunity to accompany his students to a trampoline park for an end-of-year party in 2017, he was excited to bond with them and show off his former cheerleading skills. Unfortunately, things took a turn when he came down on his head while performing a flip, severely injuring his spine and significantly affecting his mobility. Dr. Redd’s resilience, along with the support of Texas Mutual, his employer, and his community ultimately paved the way for his recovery.

Initial results showed that Dr. Redd had broken his C6 and C7 vertebrae, which were pushed into his spinal cord. Doctors told him he’d likely be a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. Dr. Redd was devastated that he may never be able to run around with his grandkids or play music again.

Dr. Redd’s Texas Mutual adjuster quickly realized that he needed some additional care and went to work getting him the resources he needed to begin his recovery. From building ramps at his house to arranging rehabilitation at one of the best spinal cord injury care facilities, Texas Mutual was able to provide him with essential tools and hope.
