Texas Mutual invests nearly $2M in workplace safety
At Texas Mutual, we’re committed to helping our policyholders protect their people. This summer, we invested nearly $2 million in safety grants, helping almost 1,300 policyholders purchase equipment to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses. Since the safety grant program began in 2016, our total investment has grown to over $13.8 million, reflecting a shared commitment to employee safety.
A program that puts people first
Every grant we award is about more than equipment; it’s about protecting the people who keep Texas businesses running. Each approved policyholder received $1,500 toward the purchase of approved safety equipment listed in their application, including ergonomic, safety, disease and illness prevention and industrial hygiene equipment.
The most common investments included:
- Wearable protection: Policyholders focused first on everyday gear that keeps employees safe on the job, including gloves, eye and ear protection, and sturdy footwear.
- Health and comfort: Many businesses invested in industrial hygiene tools to improve air quality and noise control along with ergonomic upgrades to reduce strain and fatigue.
- Preparedness for the unexpected: First-response kits, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and machine-guarding equipment show how companies are planning for critical moments and specialized risks.
These choices show how the grant funding is helping businesses strengthen daily protection, promote long-term health and create workplaces where employees can thrive.
Our commitment goes beyond grants
Safety grants are just one way we partner with our policyholders on workplace safety. Year-round, we offer free resources and expert support to our policyholders, including:
- A safety and employer resources catalog, providing access to safety manuals, training guides and more
- An e-Learning system featuring hundreds of interactive safety courses
- Safety consultants around the state, ready to help with safety questions and concerns
