Texas Mutual welcomes Dr. Kus as medical director
We’re pleased to announce that Dr. Martin Kus has joined Texas Mutual as our new corporate medical director, effective February 2, 2026. With his arrival, our current medical director, Dr. Nicholas Tsourmas, has announced his planned retirement on June 1, 2026.
About Dr. Kus
Dr. Kus brings a wealth of experience in occupational and environmental medicine built over two decades of service, including as medical director for OccMD in Dallas and chief medical officer at Next Level Urgent Care in Houston. He is also a retired U.S. Navy diving medical officer, having supported elite units such as SEAL Team Eighteen and USMC 4th Reconnaissance, and has championed workplace health and safety both in military and civilian settings.
In addition, Dr. Kus serves as an assistant adjunct professor at Duke University and has guided physician education, patient safety and organizational quality initiatives nationwide. He holds his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina. A lifelong learner and leader, Dr. Kus is committed to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and currently serves as president of the Southern College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

For more than 33 years, Dr. Tsourmas has been an exceptional leader and advocate for health and safety. His unwavering dedication, warmth and expertise have had a profound impact on our organization and those we serve. Through decades of industry change, Dr. Tsourmas has offered not only medical guidance, but also mentorship and friendship to countless colleagues. His legacy of compassion and commitment will continue to inspire us well into the future.
While we celebrate Dr. Tsourmas’s achievements and the lasting mark he leaves on Texas Mutual, we are excited for the future under the guidance of Dr. Kus. He will work alongside Dr. Tsourmas during the transition, ensuring our continued focus on quality, safety and well-being.
