OSHA launches Safety Champions Program

OSHA has announced the launch of its new Safety Champions Program (SCP), replacing the former OSHA Challenge Program. This voluntary initiative, open to both private- and public-sector worksites, provides employers with a structured three-step framework to help develop and strengthen workplace safety and health programs. The SCP is built around seven core elements, including management leadership, worker participation and hazard identification.

Interim guidance for handrail and stair rail system requirements

OSHA has issued an updated memorandum providing interim enforcement guidance on handrail and stair rail system requirements under 29 CFR 1910.28(b) and 1910.29(f). The update is intended to help employers navigate existing regulations while a new final rule is still pending.

Continuing education (CE) credit available on demand

DWC has launched a new self-study format for its CompCourses webinars, giving workers' compensation professionals a flexible way to earn CE credit. This free resource allows participants to watch previously recorded webinars on YouTube, complete a short quiz and earn one hour of TDI self-study CE credit at their own pace. Eight courses are currently available and DWC will continue offering live webinars throughout 2026, including an upcoming April 15th webinar on dispute resolution.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

NIOSH requests public input on firefighter safety priorities

NIOSH has requested public comment on firefighter safety and health priorities. The agency conducts research on risks, including injuries, heart attacks, cancer and fire-related exposures such as smoke inhalation, post-fire clean-up activities and hazardous materials. NIOSH aims to use this feedback to refine its research and ensure its work remains responsive to emerging workforce needs. Comments must be submitted by April 3.
