Safety Grants

This summer, Texas Mutual is committing $2 million in safety grants to assist eligible policyholders in purchasing safety equipment. Grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Grant details:

  • Applications open on Tuesday, July 14 at 8 a.m. CT
  • Grant amount: $1,500
  • Applications close once all funds are allotted

Who is eligible

Current policyholders in good standing are eligible to apply. To access the application, policyholders will need to have a Texas Mutual Online (TMO) account.

Application process

When applications open, this page will be updated with a link to apply. Policyholders will be directed to log in to their TMO account to access the application. In the application, you will be asked to share:

  • Your contact information
  • The number of full-time, part-time and temporary employees at your company
  • The type and cost of equipment your business is planning to purchase with grant funds
  • A brief description of how the equipment will improve safety.
Once your application is submitted, Texas Mutual’s safety grant committee will review your application within four weeks. You will receive an email informing you of acceptance or denial.

How can funds be used

Safety grant funds may be used for ergonomic, safety, disease and illness prevention and industrial hygiene equipment to reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.

The grant may not be used toward salaries, wages, internal labor, the cost of preparing the application or equipment or materials needed to perform a job.

When do applications open?

Applications open Tuesday, July 14 at 8 a.m. CT. We will email agents and policyholders details about the program before it opens. Applications will close once all grant funds have been allotted.

Who can apply?

Current policyholders in good standing are eligible to apply. You must have a TMO account to access the application.

How much does a grant recipient receive?

Each approved policyholder will receive a check for $1,500.

What can grant funds be used for?

Grant funds may only be used to purchase ergonomic, safety, disease and illness prevention and industrial hygiene equipment to reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses. Common examples include:

  • Personal protective equipment
    • Fall protection and prevention
    • Safety clothing
    • Respiratory protection
  • Industrial hygiene equipment
    • Gas meters
    • Sound level meters/dosimeters
  • Ergonomic equipment
    • Ergonomic tools
    • Ergonomic workstation items
    • Equipment lifts
  • Disease and illness prevention
    • Disinfectants/cleaners
    • Fans/filtration systems
  • Machine guarding

  • First responder supplies

  • General safety
    • Safety signage
    • Safety courses
How do I apply for a grant?

Once grants open on July 14, an application link will be available at the top of this page. If you are a Texas Mutual policyholder, you will be able to apply through your TMO account. Depending on customer volume, you may be placed in a virtual line to wait for your turn to apply.

The application will ask several questions, such as how many people the business employs, how the grant will improve safety and health, which items the business intends to purchase and how much the items cost.

Only one contact per company can submit an application. Once an application is started, it must be completed under the same email address. You will receive a confirmation email once your application has been submitted. Texas Mutual will complete a review within four weeks and send you another email informing you of acceptance or denial.

Can I apply for a grant on behalf of multiple businesses?

Yes, you can apply for a grant on behalf of multiple businesses, but you will need to use separate TMO accounts to do so. Only one grant application is permitted for each unique email address and TMO account. Once an application is started, it must be completed under the same email address.
