With nearly 1,000 employees and over 6,000 agents that help us serve 70,000 businesses across the state, we're deeply committed to the health of the state's workers' compensation system. We invest in this commitment by training new talent and developing collaborative partnerships.

Last month, in support of our partnership with the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), we recognized the 4th Annual Insurance Careers Month to help bring awareness to insurance industry careers.

See some of the ways we're supporting the longevity of our industry.

Underwriter training program

Since 2014, our underwriting training program has been an avenue for young professionals seeking a career in insurance. Each year, we accept around six trainees for the program from our regional offices in Houston, Dallas and Lubbock where they will eventually work. The extensive 13-week program gives recent college graduates the opportunity to learn insurance acumen and customer-first skills to succeed as underwriters.

Claims training program

Since 2008, our claims program has prepared future licensed adjusters for taking care of our customers. The almost three-month program takes a deep dive into the history and legal structure of insurance, our claims software program and guided first-hand experience in handling claims.

Trainees start the program knowing very little about the workers' compensation system and graduate as licensed adjusters from the Texas Department of Insurance.

Educational partnerships

We support educating future insurance professionals, and last year, Texas Mutual gave $20,000 to Texas universities, including the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of North Texas and the University of Houston-Downtown.

We donated to the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in support of Gamma Iota Sigma, a nonprofit committed to inspiring the next generation to pursue insurance and risk management.

Our donation to UTD also assisted its school of management to develop a new risk and safety engineering course. Because of our partnership and close relationship with UTD, Texas Mutual employees regularly engage with students who are pursuing insurance careers and share insight into the industry.

Our commitment to building safer workplaces and communities is deepened through our training programs and collaborative partnerships. We are continuing to lead in the industry by investing in the education of Texas workers to benefit businesses throughout the state.
