Texas Mutual awards $4.5M to 62 nonprofits supporting working Texans

$4.5M in grants to support working Texans

Texas Mutual has selected 62 Texas nonprofits to receive over $4.5 million in community grants for their dedication to reducing barriers that limit economic opportunity for working Texans. Nonprofit organizations were invited to apply for a Working Texans Economic Opportunity Grant between April 13 and May 15. After an extensive review process, we selected our grant partners for their efforts in:

  • Championing working parents by expanding access to quality early childhood education or out-of-school time care for children so that parents can obtain and retain stable employment
  • Prioritizing workforce wellness by ensuring working Texans are physically healthy through increased access to primary care
  • Enabling workforce advancement by facilitating access to essential basic needs so that working Texans can obtain or retain stable employment, building a foundation for long-term economic mobility

To evaluate grant applications, Texas Mutual trained 65 employee volunteers to review applications based on several criteria, including evaluating each organization for their work reducing barriers to economic opportunity for working Texans and alignment with our commitment to build stronger, safer, more resilient communities. Throughout our review, the community affairs team worked to ensure that our funding was distributed throughout the state and supported underserved communities.

Texas Workforce Development Grant

Through our second community grant this year, Texas Mutual will distribute additional funding to Texas nonprofit organizations that are helping fortify the state's workforce and economy. Applications will open at 8 a.m. CT on Monday, August 10, and will close at 11:59 p.m. CT on Friday, September 11. You can register to attend our informational webinar on August 19 at 11 a.m. CT.

For this grant cycle, we'll be looking for organizations focused on:

  • Developing a skilled workforce by preparing Texans for high-demand, living wage middle-skill jobs through completion of apprenticeships or postsecondary credentials of value
  • Empowering small businesses by supporting initiatives that promote their resilience and the facilitation of new job growth
  • Reconnecting the disengaged workforce by connecting opportunity youth to supportive career pathways as a means of expanding the available labor force
