Texas Mutual awards millions of dollars in grants each year to create safer, healthier work environments. Last year, more than 1,200 businesses and first responders received funds to keep their people safe on the job. These grants are part of our commitment to the safety and wellness of all Texans through our community program, TXM for Texas.
Safety and wellness grants have been offered each year since 2016. Stay tuned for more information to come in 2020. VFIS volunteer first responder grants typically open in the fall. To get the latest news on upcoming grant opportunities sign up to receive our employer newsletter.
In 2019, we awarded $1.5 million to policyholders to purchase ergonomic, safety and industrial hygiene equipment that will help reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses. Our safety grants provide qualified policyholder applicants with $1,500 for the purchase of approved safety equipment.

Healthier employees save you money on workers' compensation claims, health care costs, missed work days and so much more. We've partnered with Naturally Slim, an online and mobile app program, to offer you the opportunity to enhance employee wellness. Wellness grant recipients will receive a 12-month online program for their employees that includes 10 weeks of Naturally Slim's foundation, seven bi-weekly videos for reinforcements and six monthly videos for maintenance.
If you would like to learn more about how the program works see our 2019 Wellness Grant Program Guide. Check back for more grant opportunities in 2020.
We recommend that interested policyholders apply as soon as the applications open. Grants are processed in the order they are received, and the programs close when all grant funds for the year have been allotted.
Grant applications are processed through our online grant portal, which can be accessed when the applications open each year. One person per company may apply, and that person will be our single point of contact for your grant application.
Our safety and wellness grant programs are managed by our safety services support center. If you have questions, please call 844-WORKSAFE (967-5723) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We partner with VFIS of Texas to support need-based grants for volunteer first responder and non-profit EMS organizations. The grants encourage participation in health and wellness programs to help recipients improve their wellness and prevent on-the-job injuries. Together with VFIS of Texas, we’re donating $300,000 to volunteer first responders this year.
Applications open in the fall and are administered by VFIS of Texas. The application and more information will be available at vfistx.com.
